Code of Conduct

 

Touch rugby is built on respect for teammates, opponents, referees and coaches. This code applies to everyone involved with Wolves at training, tournaments and online.

 

Players

  • Enjoy it, try your best and keep improving.

  • Play within the rules and respect the referee's decisions, even when you disagree.

  • Be a good teammate. Help others, include everyone and never pick on anyone.

  • Win and lose with good grace, and applaud good play from either team.

  • Arrive on time with the right kit, water and suitable footwear.

  • Be kind online too. No unkind messages, photos or posts in WhatsApp groups or on social media.

  • If something worries you, tell a coach, the Club Welfare Officer or a trusted adult.

 

Parents, carers and spectators

  • Encourage every player. Praise effort, never criticise mistakes.

  • Don't pressure an unwilling child to take part. The sport should be fun for them.

  • Respect referees and coaches, and never shout at or criticise them from the touchline.

  • Stay off the playing area unless a coach asks you onto it.

  • Only photograph your own child, and don't post pictures of other children without their parents' agreement.

  • If you are collecting your child, be on time.

  • If you have a concern about a coach, speak to them or to the club. Raise any safeguarding worry with the Club Welfare Officer.

 

Coaches and volunteers

  • Put players' wellbeing and safety first, always.

  • Keep sessions fun, inclusive and suited to each player's age and stage. Give everyone a fair go.

  • Never shout at, humiliate or ridicule a player.

  • Plan sessions, keep equipment safe and follow the club's first aid and emergency arrangements.

  • Hold a current Enhanced DBS check through England Touch and up-to-date safeguarding training, and follow the Safeguarding Policy.

  • Communicate with players through the club's group chats with parents or other adults included, never by private messages.

  • Don't drink alcohol, smoke or vape while responsible for players.

  • Respect referees and set a good example.

 

If the code is broken

Coaches will usually speak to the person first. Serious or repeated breaches will be reviewed by the club, and may lead to a warning, suspension or removal from the club. Where there is a safeguarding concern, the club will follow its Safeguarding Policy.
